Public School 61. South Bronx. 1986-1989.

I truly do not know the cause or the motives that have compelled me to take most of my pictures. I only understand that I wanted to document, and I wanted to have the proof of the way we lived and how we still live in the South Bronx. I always recall the white picket fences and the slogan, “A new hope for the South Bronx,” at the South Bronx Concerned Citizens Community Center.  I had that hope, too.

The white picket fences were a symbol of better things to come for the people. This photograph of Boston Road was a better sight for me from the rest of the landscape with a cleaner sight to capture, as I had noticed the construction of a new homes that pointed to promise. Was there hope after all?
